1798 S-185 R2 Style II Hair, Small 8 VF35. Sharpness EF45 but very lightly cleaned and nicely retoned frosty chocolate brown and steel with very subtle overtones of light bluish steel on both sides. No hints of roughness and the only mark of any significance is a light scratch at the leaves under the first S in STATES. E-MDS, Breen state IV. The die cracks in the field before the face are faint but visible. The die clashmarks over ERIC are still sharp. Called EF40 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net VF25 and tied for CC#9, his photo #24155. Comes with a great, old provenance.
