Lot 569

1798 S-177 R4+ Style II Hair, Small 8 G6. Slightly sharper but both sides show myriad faint hairline scratches. No verdigris. A pinprick high on the neck is the best identifying mark. Somewhat glossy steel and light olive brown with some darker chocolate toning in protected areas. VLDS, later than Breen state V. The die crack through the date is strong and extends far into the field on both sides. In addition there is obvious swelling at ED, TE(S), F-A, and over the R in AMERICA. The reverse die is failing badly. An important die state. Called net G6 by Bland.
Estimated Value $250-UP.
Ex Bowers & Merena 9/1985:1861-Sol Varon 5/1990-Jack Beymer 6/2/1990 (via Del Bland)-Dr. Philip W. Ralls.
