Lot 550

1798 S-170 R3 Style II Hair, Small 8 VF30. Ten points sharper but recolored glossy chocolate and olive brown with frosty golden tan toning in protected areas on the obverse. The obverse is smooth but the reverse is covered with uniform very fine granularity. No verdigris or notable contact marks. A small patch of minor roughness at the bottom of the 9 is a good identifying mark. E-MDS, Breen state II. The die clashmarks at the throat are clear but the obverse is uncracked. Called EF45 net VF35 and tied for CC#8 in the Bland census.
