1798/7 S-150 R5 Overdate 8 over 7 F15. The "Close Overdate." Sharpness near EF40 with microscopic roughness mostly hidden under the glossy dark steel and olive brown patina. The roughness is strongest on the reverse. No verdigris. The only marks are myriad faint hairline scratches covering the portrait, all hidden under the patina. MDS, Breen state II late. There is obvious swelling at S-OF-AMER. The date is bold and the overdate feature is obvious. Called net VF20 and tied for CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net F15 and tied for CC#5, his photo #23998.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
