Lot 449

1797 S-131 R2 Stemless Reverse PCGS graded XF45. A very attractive cent, but there is a short scratch hidden near the leaves under ERI in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is choice and the eye appeal remains excellent. Glossy chocolate and olive brown. M-LDS, Breen state IV. The crack behind the head is bold and two lighter vertical cracks are visible in the field before the portrait. Called VF35 and tied for CC#5 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF30 and tied for CC#7, his photo #24196. Our grade is VF35+. Either way this is an important example of the popular "Stemless Wreath" type. The attribution, Stemless Wreath feature, and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 1 finer in 55. (PCGS # 35981) .
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
