Lot 447

1797 S-130 R2. PCGS graded AU-58. CAC Approved. Very attractive glossy tan and light brown with darker steel brown and chocolate toning on the highpoints. Hints of very faded mint color can be found on the reverse. A choice cent that offers outstanding eye appeal. According to Dr. Ralls' note on his collection envelope, this cent offers "choicest possible color, a gem circ in the condition census." Denis Loring added on his envelope "this cent is just too perfect." The best identifying mark is a very light rim bruise at RI in AMERICA. MDS, Breen state III. The die cracks near the dentils behind the head are strong but the section between them is not fully raised. Called AU50 and tied for CC#4 in the Bland census. Noyes says AU55 net EF45 (reason for the deduction unknown) and tied for CC#3, his photo #23946. Our grade is AU50. The attribution and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 1 finer in 62. (PCGS # 35930) .
