1797 S-123 R4. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. CAC Approved. Choice frosty light steel brown with darker steel brown toning on the highest points of the designs. A beautiful cent, essentially as struck, and it offers outstanding eye appeal. The only "defects" are microscopic planchet chips, mostly on the portrait and in the field to the left. M-LDS, Breen state III, with a tiny rim break in the dentils over TA in STATES. A premium example of this "Nichols Hoard" variety (see the 1797 S-123 in this sale for a brief description of this hoard). Called MS63 Choice and tied for CC#1 honors in the Noyes census, his photo #35235. Bland says MS63 but tied for CC#4. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer. (PCGS # 35909) .
Estimated Value $7,500-UP.
