Lot 1829
1855. NGC graded MS-60. Lovely golden toning. About as close to watertight originality as can be expected, this vibrant warmly toned specimen is relatively unblemished. We note a small scratch in the field near the chin. All this is perhaps obvious from the photos. What we need to emphasize also is that the strike is customarily crisp and detailed for the issue with the usual sharp metal flows into the deepest recesses of the dies on both sides at centers. Most stars, too, show their central lines. The 1855 $10 has mint engraver Longacre’s signature Slanting 5s in the date. An imaginative touch. Pop 12; 30 finer, 23 in 61, 4 in 62, 2 in 63, 1 in 65 (PCGS # 8616) . Estimated Value $3,500 - 3,800.
