Seleukid Kingdom. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Gold Stater (8.62g). Babylon I, in the name of Alexander III of Macedon, struck ca. 311-300 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet, the bowl of which is adorned with serpent coiled to right. Reverse BAΣ-IΛEΩΣ AΛEΞANΔPO[Y], Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; in left field, monogram in wreath; in right field, HP monogram. SC 81.9; cf. Price 3716 (sphinx on helmet). A lustrous example, well detailed in high relief and of excellent artistic merit. Delicate golden-rose toning adds to its appeal. Superb Nearly Mint State. Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000
