Lot 199

1801 NC-3 R6+ Error Fraction 1/000 AG3 but Counterstamped. Rather glossy olive brown and steel with a patch of reddish chocolate toning in the field before the portrait. Reasonably smooth but there are traces of microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. Counterstamped "H H" in the center of the obverse, and the stamps were strong enough to cause significant bulges on the reverse. Fortunately the date remains strong and clear, and the 1/000 error fraction is weaker but still visible. Far from perfect but still an acceptable example of this very rare die variety, the finest of which grades only VG8. Estimated Value $500-UP

Realized $483
