Lot 1495

1906. NGC graded MS-65. Well struck and intensely lustrous with some mottled toning on both sides. Pop 15; none finer at NGC .
Historical note: Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1906, old photographs from the period show that there was still a preponderance of horse drawn carriages, wagons and carts at this time, with now and then a new-fangled horseless carriage in the picture. Newspaper columnists like H.L. Mencken welcomed the arrival of automobiles since they displaced the horseflies, the stench of in-town stables, and the problem of what to do with all the "leavings" of the horses, a major clean-up operation in metropolitan cities in those days. Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500
