Lot 1493

1893. PCGS graded Proof 65+DCAM. Only 792 struck. A marvelous gem example. To say that this is an impressive gem tells only part of the story, with brilliant reflective luster and a bit of lavender-gold toning accents at the rims, the coin rocks. Representative strike for the date, meaning razor-sharp at the head and eagle with all stars resplendent and the legends also crisply formed by a dual strike from the dies. Proofs were struck on the Mint's medal press, which gave a uniform squeeze to the planchets, thereby imparting all of their most minute detail to the struck coin. Solid Gem quality-plus where objective standards are concerned. Subjectively, this Barber Half Dollar is downright gorgeous.Pop 3; 6 finer, 2 in 66, 2 in 67, 2 in 67+ (PCGS # 96540) Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500

Ex: Larry Shapiro Collection.
