(1667-69) Saint Patrick's Halfpenny Breen-204 Vlack 4-E VG10. The "Small Letters Both Sides" type. Rather glossy light to medium chocolate brown blending to dark chocolate in the protected areas. The brass "splasher" at the crown is a lighter shade of golden tan. Mostly smooth with decent surfaces, essentially just worn. A dull, very old scratch through the top of the harp to the rim left of the crown is the only notable mark. A quite acceptable example of the halfpenny denomination of the St Patrick or Mark Newby type, much rarer than the farthing denomination. Listed on page 41 in the "Redbook." Weight 146.6 grains.
Estimated Value $350-UP.
Ex Bowers & Merena 3/13/2003:13 (lot ticket included).
