Lot 72

1787 Connecticut Small Head Facing Right, ETLIB INDE Miller 1.1-A Rarity-3 VF30. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown mixed with reddish chocolate on the obverse. No contact marks, but there is a small spot of very fine corrosion at the foot of the I in AUCTORI. The centers are softly struck, as usual on this variety, but everything else is strongly impressed. The date and legends are complete and bold. LDS with obvious swelling behind the head and sinking in the center of the reverse (which is responsible for the weakness in that area). The planchet is free of voids or clips, which is unusual. A very nice example of the popular Small Head type. Listed on page 61 in the "Redbook." Weight 114.3 grains.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
