1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 MS62. The "12-Star" die state. Lustrous light olive brown and bluish steel with faded mint red covering 20% of the planchet. Close to gem except for an obvious carbon spot hanging off the lower part of star 10. EDS, die state b, with star 6 very weak due to a die clog on that area (the so-called 12-Star die state). The fields are hard and slightly reflective on both sides.
