Lot 398

1819 N-8 R1 MS60. Laminated Planchet. Lustrous chocolate brown on the obverse where there are a couple tiny peeps of mint red; the reverse is choice lustrous steel brown with 50% of the original red remaining. The only defect is an obvious planchet lamination from the rim through star 3 and the bust tip to the bottom of the second 1 in the date and into the dentils below (as struck). EDS with slightly reflective fields on both sides. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents discovered shortly after the US Civil War.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex Stack's 9/9/1987:433-Carvin Goodridge collection (lot ticket included).

Realized $437
