Great Britain. Half Ryal, ND. Fr-134; S.1963; North 1558; Not in Schneider. 3.18 grams. Edward IV, First reign, 1461-1470. Light coinage. York mint. Obverse: King standing in ship, holding sword and shield. Rose on ship's side, E in waves (York) below. Reverse: Rose upon a radiate sun in center of floriated cross. Struck circa 1467-1470. A superb example, uncirculated with original luster. Catalogue price £2000 British Pounds in VF. No price for higher grades. NGC graded MS-63.

The value of the Noble was raised from 6 shillings 8 pence, to 8 shillings 4 pence, and in 1465 a new gold coin, the Ryal or Rose Noble was introduced, weighing in at 120 grains and with a face value of 10 shillings or half a Pound. Branch mints were established at York, Bristol, Coventry and Norwich to assist with the recoinage. The York mint was only open until 1471, and all York gold coins are rare in high grade.
