Lot 373

1817 N-4 R3+ Reverse Brockage VG8. Sharpness VF35 but corroded. The roughness is light to moderate on the normally struck side but moderate to strong on the incuse brockage side. No marks or verdigris, and the color is an attractive and somewhat glossy chocolate and olive brown. The normal and incuse impressions are both centered on the planchet and are not rotated. Although this reverse die was used in three different 1817 marriages, the early die state suggests this piece was struck during the first (N-4) pairing.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex Carvin Goodridge collection.

Realized $345
