Commodus, as augustus, AD 177-192 AD. Gold Aureus (7.31g). Minted at Rome, AD 179. Laureate head of Commodus, draped and cuirassed to right. Reverse: Mars Victor, naked but for helmet and chlamys around waist, advancing right, carrying spear in right hand and trophy over left shoulder. C-768; RIC 659; Calico 2339. Perfectly struck on a broad flan with a light reddish tone and underlying luster. Superb Extremely Fine.
