Lot 2659

1886 Liberty Nickel. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck and mostly untoned. Very rare date in MS65. If the 1885 is a higher visibility coin, the 1886 competes by being actually scarcer per the associated PCGS census below. The reason for this misconception appears to us to be found in the lower mintage figure for the 1885 (1.4 vs. 3.3 million pieces). This coin has fully defined features in all areas, including the ear of corn on the lower left portion of the wreath, an often weak point. Full untoned luster covers each side with glowing, satin-like mint bloom ricocheting the light landing upon it. Exceptionally clean as well with lovely, problem-free surfaces. Pop 35; 6 finer, 5 in 66, 1 in 66+ (PCGS # 3847) .
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,000.
The Coltrin Family Collection.

Realized $5,060
