James A. Garfield, killed by an assassin's bullet in 1881, was a great president, if by "great" one illustrates greatness by not doing despicable things. Garfield took office in March of 1881. The man was a marvel who could write Latin with one hand and Greek with the other – at the same time. He was shot in July and died three months later. "He didn't have time to accomplish his plans," say the historians. Estimated Value $900 - 1,000. The Coltrin Family Collection.
