Lot 1887

1907-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-64. A choice golden orange mint example with glowing surfaces, seeped in originality, and pleasing to gaze upon. An historic item from the days when the US was on a solid, hard-money gold standard and $20 gold pieces like this '07-S Liberty Head were The Standard of reference for all prices.

And what of prices back then? A good example would be the followiing year's price of a brand new Model T automobile. The 1908 Model T (first year "of issue" so to speak) cost $825 or 41 and a quarter Double Eagles. Through the marvel of production-line efficiency, the price of these declined rapidly to $360 in 1914-15, or 18 Double Eagles! Do the math, multiply 41 or 18 Double Eagles (at 0.9675 of an ounce per coin) times today's New York gold price to arrive at a comparable 21st Century gold price for these automobiles (PCGS # 9054) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,100.
The Arden Collection.

Realized $4,025
