Lot 1788

1876-CC $20 Liberty. NGC graded AU-58. Untoned. Traces of luster remain within the devices. This issue's mintage figure of 138,441 pieces is the highest of any double eagle struck in the Carson City Mint. As such, it is a fairly easy coin to obtain in circulated grades with AU58 examples switching to the scarcer category. In Mint State, on the other hand, author Douglas Winter estimates that only 50-60 pieces exist. The surfaces are fresh-gold in color with modest, yet readily evident Prooflike tendencies around devices. Better than average strike and free of all but a few scattered abrasions, this coin should be of obvious importance to advanced Carson City connoisseurs (PCGS # 8977) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.
The Arden Collection.

Realized $6,613
