1787 Fugio Cent Double Struck G5. A STATES/UNITED type. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. Smooth surfaces that are free of any notable marks, just worn. Some of the details are better than the assigned grade while others are weaker, which is attributable to the double strike. The initial strike was normal and centered on the planchet. The second impression was about 40% off center to K-6. The reverse appears to be from the Newman "M" die, but the obverse is unattributed. The "17" in the date of the off-center strike is clear but the rest of the date is off the planchet. An impressive error in spite of the low grade. Listed on page 87 in the "Redbook." Weight 153.7 grains.
