Lot 1640

1855-S PCGS graded Genuine XF Details. Cleaning. Only 9,000 struck. Lightly toned with some luster still evident. Second San Francisco Mint issue, when the mint opened in 1854 it had a huge waiting list of bullion deposits to refine and process into coins. Production caught up, as it were, by 1855 and so mintage for the $10 Eagle denomination declined markedly from what it had been the year before. Most depositors requested the $20 size for ease in counting and transport (PCGS # 8618) .
Estimated Value $1,200-UP.

Realized $1,610
