Lot 1620

1842-O $10 Liberty. NGC graded AU-50. Lightly toned. Scarce low mintage date. Only 27,400 struck. A small mark in the field above stars 12 and 13, otherwise outstanding in terms of its smooth elegance and lack of abrasion for such an early New Orleans Eagle issue. We commend the former owners for taking such good care of it in their stewardship. Protected now in a coin encapsulation, the clear surfaces will maintain their integrity going forward. A worthwhile No Motto $10 gold piece from New Orleans 1842 (PCGS # 8587) .

Humorous anecdote: For those who have a taste for the macabre, there is a recent fiction-horror novel out by Nicole Hadaway titled, appropriately enough, "New Orleans 1842." It is about a young vampire, Miranda, "who chooses the humid, but exciting New Orleans" as her home. What will they think of next!
Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,500.
The Arden Collection.

Realized $2,415
