Lot 158

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 8-B Rarity-3 NGC graded MS62 Brown. A UNITED STATES type. Frosty medium brown and chocolate. Nicely struck slightly off center to K-7.5 on a problem-free planchet (so many of these Fugio Cents were struck on obviously flawed planchets containing voids and/or planchet slag). The only mark, and it is insignificant, is a bit of crud in the dentils over the 87 in the date. MDS showing clear die clashmarks on the reverse. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state Fugio Cents that was dispersed long ago. A premium example for a type set. Listed on page 87 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
The Arden Collection.

Realized $2,760
