1861 $5 Liberty. NGC graded MS-61. Well struck and untoned. Popular Civil War issue. Very frosty No Motto issue from the opening year of the Civil War (a.k.a. the War of the Rebellion in the official US two-volume history of the event). The luster on the obverse is virtually undisturbed by surface marks, and the same can be said for the reverse, although there is one noticeable mark at the tip of the arrowhead. Purest golden color; no discoloration or copper toning spots (PCGS # 8288) .
