Lot 1486

1878 $3 Gold. PCGS graded MS-63. A beautiful lustrous example and ideal for a top quality type set. The fully brilliant example we now hand over bidders beats (from a technical angle) practically all of the MS63 $3 that have passed through the various grading services in recent weeks. Unlike the typical survivor with its diminished luster, this one is above-average, with only the reverse bow incomplete, left by a weak blow of the dies (a common complaint due to the juxtaposition of the highest relief on Liberty being opposite this area of the reverse. A handsome coin that is very attractive from top to bottom, center to periphery (PCGS # 8000) .
Estimated Value $3,800 - 4,000.

Realized $4,370
