Lot 1393
1851-D $2.50 Liberty. PCGS graded AU-50. A bold strike in natural greenish color gold. Only 11,264 minted. The 1851-D tends to show a much better strike than the other Dahlonega quarter eagles from the early 1850s. The current coin has excellent detail. The obverse shows nearly full hair, sharp denticles and has full radial lines in the stars. The reverse is also detailed with sharp feathers noted on the wings but less so on one leg and the eagle’s neck. A high "D" mintmark impacts the branch and arrow feather (PCGS # 7761) . Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600. The Arden Collection.
