Lot 57

1799 S-189 R2+ PCGS graded XF40. PCGS graded EF-40. Dark olive brown and steel with uniform microscopic roughness under the patina, strongest on the reverse. There are traces of shallow verdigris in a few of the protected areas on both sides. Just a few contact marks, including a couple nicks on the nose, one on the chin, and a couple more in the field before the neck. Great detail for a 1799, and nicely struck with both the date and LIBERTY strong. M-LDS, Breen state IV late. The lump over T in CENT is strong and clear crumbling shows in the dentils at F-AM and over CA. Graded VF35 net F15 and tied for CC#15 by Noyes, photo #31831. Our grade is net VF20. The attribution and Paul Gerrie provenance are shown on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 2 finer, 1 in 45, 1 in 61.
Estimated Value $30,000-UP.
Ex T. Steinmetz-Tom Reynolds-Bowers & Merena 11/1994:2049-Henry T. Hettger-Tony Terranova 4/2009-Paul Gerrie.
