Lot 521

1845 N-8 R1 MS63. Mint red fading to light olive brown and steel with a third of the mellowed mint color remaining. Great eye appeal and nearly gem if not for a faint spot of darker toning in the middle of the jawline, a light nick on the chin, and a few microscopic hairlines in the obverse fields. The reverse is flawless, a solid gem in every respect. Sharply struck VEDS (very early die state) with hard, reflective fields on both sides. Tied for CC#7 in the Grellman census without regard to the die state. A beautiful cent, and it comes with an impressive provenance.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
