Lot 51

1797 S-139 R1 PCGS "Genuine, Unc Details, Questionable Color". Lustrous steel brown and light olive with a splash of darker steel and olive toning on the left side of the obverse. Virtually void of marks other than a tiny struck through line near the dentils left of the hair ribbon and some minor planchet chips inside the wreath, both as struck. E-MDS, Breen state II early plus some of his state III. The die crack of state II from the dentils to the hair below the rim is clear but the additional crack of state II from the same spot at the dentils to the lowest curl is extremely faint or missing altogether. However, the die clashmarks of Breen state III at ES-OF are sharp. Perhaps the Breen die states need some adjusting. Graded MS60 and CC#3 in the Noyes census, photo #62009. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Paul Gerrie provenance are shown on the PCGS label. Pop 1; The Finest at PCGS.
Estimated Value $12,500-UP.
Ex Chris McCawley 9/2006-Paul Gerrie.

Realized $13,800
