Lot 501
1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6 VG10. Sharpness near VF20 but a few contact marks were carefully smoothed out of the field just off the tip of the nose and from the cheek. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and display only a few trivial contact marks. Expertly retoned glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. Excellent eye appeal for the grade, but the obverse burnishing is obvious under magnification. E-MDS. There is a dull wave in the field from between stars 3 & 4 to the nose, but the die is not cracked. The overdate feature is bold.
