Sicily, Syrakuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Silver Tetradrachm (17.0g) struck ca. 430 BC. Charioteer driving slow quadriga right, Nike (Victory) flying above to crown horses. Reverse: Head of Arethusa right, her hair in sakkos, wearing a double looped earring and necklace, four dolphins around. Boehringer 635 (v321/R435), SNG ANS 204, Gulbenkian 268, Boston MFA 385-6. Excellent metal, untoned surfaces. Choice Very Fine. Very scarce.
