Lot 280

1798/7 S-150 R5 Style I Hair, Overdate 8 over 7 G4. Slightly sharper on the obverse but the reverse displays a couple dozen pits, and portions of the designs on that side are worn smooth thanks to die swelling. The planchet is not perfectly smooth but there is no verdigris. A small dig or pit in the field before the chin is the best identifying mark. Slightly glossy steel and chocolate mixed with a bit of darker olive brown on the reverse. The date is strong and the overdate is clear. LDS, Breen state IV, with strong swelling on much of the reverse.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
Ex R. S. Brown, Jr. (comes with his collection envelope).
