Lot 26

1794 S-41 R3. PCGS graded AU-53. Mostly glossy chocolate and steel brown mixed with slightly darker chocolate and olive brown toning on the upper right half of the obverse. The reverse shows traces of frosty luster in protected areas. The only notable mark is a thin diagonal nick under the ER in AMERICA. Nicely struck with light wear on the highpoints. E-MDS, Breen state III, with a clear die crack from the rim through the center of the D in UNITED extending weakly to the tops of CE in CENT. The crack between the A & T in STATES has not formed. Called EF40 Average Plus and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #39233. The finest known piece is a mint state example impounded in the ANS Museum, so this is about as good as it gets for S-41. Our grade is VF35+. The attribution and Paul Gerrie provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; the Finest at PCGS.
Estimated Value $7,500-UP.
Ex Harry Laibstain 6/2001-Paul Gerrie.

Realized $20,125
