1903 Louisiana Purchase-Jefferson Dollar. NGC graded MS-62. The original intent of the authorizing legislation was to honor President Jefferson who spearheaded the acquisition of the vast Louisiana Territory from Napoleon Bonepart of France in 1803. (After President McKinley was shot in 1901, the Congress decided to feature a second issue in honor of him, with his portrait.) (PCGS # 7443) .
