1896. NGC graded Proof 68 Ultra Cameo. A superb brilliant white cameo treasure. Only 762 minted. A pristine snow white-capped gem! Over the years, we have been consigned several spectacular Cameo Proof 1896 Morgan Dollars. Few of them can compare to this lovely piece, however. Certainly among the most impressive is the NGC-certified 68 Ultra Cameo grade on the holder's insert. One hundred percent struck over all elements of the design, both sides are most noteworthy for their razor-sharp detail. The surfaces combine two qualities. The fields, a mirror-deep effect to a point almost beyond comprehension. At direct light angles, the field looks almost black, as though looking into a Black Hole in space. Meanwhile, the devices are ultra frosted by the dies. This was intentional. The mint took great pride in its know-how and skill in prepping the dies for just such an outcome. Silky smooth in texture, both sides are expertly preserved and readily deserving of the Proof 68 grade for the ultimate in beauty. To cap it all, everything is glistening white. Pop 12; 9 finer, 6 in 68 Star, 2 in 69, 1 in 69 Star (PCGS # 7331) .
