(1789) Washington Inaugural Button, Eagle & Star Type, Albert WI-12C Very Fine. Rather glossy chocolate brown. The surfaces are covered with very fine granularity but free of any marks or verdigris. The eagle and star designs are clear and the original shank is intact. Actually quite nice in spite of the uniform granularity. Most likely rescued from soil, as are most of the known examples. An important piece of our early history, although we are unaware of any documented evidence that these were actually worn during the inaugural celebrations. Diameter 34.5 millimeters, weight 88.3 grains.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.

Realized $1,898
