STS-51-L Challenger’s Final Flight -- Flight Crew 4 x 5" original color negative – "Graduation outtake". As every other flight crew does the crew of STS-51-L sat for an official crew portrait. At the time no one knew this flight would end in disaster. In addition to their more formal photos the crew decided to sit for a portrait in graduation outfits complete with mortarboard and tassel. This was to highlight one of their crew members, Christa McAuliffe and the "First Teacher in Space" program. This outtake includes back-up teacher Barbara Morgan who ultimately flew on STS-118 (and does not include Greg Jarvis). The negative is in a protective paper NASA sleeve that reads "No. 17, TEACHER, Other Doll" The doll refers to an item being held in the photo by McAuliffe. A powerful and unique photograph. Estimated Value $125 - 150.
