Helen Garriott 1arge "Earthrise" Handmade Cookie Jar (9X8"). Helen Garriott Large handmade "Earthrise" Cookie Jar. (9 x 8") Black porcelain cookie jar with gray, blue and white speckles of ceramic "sand" representing the lunar surface covering out-side the jar. This delightful ceramic was made by Helen Garriott, wife of Skylab 3 Pilot Owen Garriott and is titled "Eartrise" in reference to the famous Apollo 8 photograph. The top handle on the lid is fashioned in the shape of the earth, which surmounts the lower portion of the jar shaped like the Moon. On the "Moon's" surface are the various lunar mare, with a pair of astronaut footprints near the Sea of Tranquility. Mrs. Garriott made several sizes of these jars in different configurations; this is the larger size known as the "basketball size." Excellent condition and complete with Helen Garriott's tag. Very attractive.
