Two-page woodcut of sea monsters, which is a compilation of medieval monsters used by cartographers and engravers. From Sebastion Munster's epic Cosmographia (Universal Cosmography), which explored disciplines such as natural science, astronomy, geography, history and folklore.The Cosmographia was the most read book in 16th century Germany after the Bible. German text on verso. Two pieces of tape remnant at top verso from previous framing and light toning in margins.
