Lot 3465

Constantine IX, 1042-1055. Gold Histamenon Nomisma (4.37 g) minted at Constantinople. Christ enthroned facing, raising right hand in benediction. Reverse: Bust facing of Constantine IX holding labarum and globus cruciger. D.O. 2; S. 1829. Well centered on a broad flan. Fully lustrous; Virtually Mint State.

Histamenon nomismata of this period are difficult to find well struck, on large flans and with no graffiti. This is a happy exception. We expect strong competition for its new home.
Estimated Value $450 - 550.

Realized $633
