OUTSTANDING 1913-S $10.00 GOLD. PCGS graded MS-64 Premium quality. Here is another key date to the Indian Eagle series, the 1913-S. Only 66,000 were struck, most circulated at the time of issue and few were saved. According to the PCGS Population Report, only 8 have been graded this high, with 3 graded higher. In all, it appears that less than 100 survive in all grades of uncirculated. Perhaps that will give the bidders some idea of how special this coin is.
The surfaces are extremely choice, a glass will locate a couple of tiny tick marks on Liberty's face, but the fields and devices are certainly of gem quality. Light olive gold toning surrounds the devices and gives the coin a bit of an antique appearance over the mint-fresh luster. Similar on the reverse, with lightly toned fields and boldly struck devices. Again, a glass will scarcely find a tick mark anywhere. Simply put, this is a staggering rarity in this grade, certainly one of the top dozen known of the date, perhaps in the top six, if all could ever be assembled for comparison. An important opportunity for the numismatist to purchase on of the highest grade and rarest issues of the Indian Eagle series.
Estimated Value $50,000-UP.
