Lot 73

1846 N-12 R1 Tall Date MS63+. Lustrous mint red fading to olive and bluish steel brown with at least a third of the mint color showing on both sides. No defects other than a few small areas of slightly darker toning. The notable ones are a faint spot of dark olive in the field off the tip of the nose, one on the lower point of star 9, and another over the end of the wreath stem. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b. The fine repunching off the left base of the 4 is gone but the die lines from the throat are sharp. A very attractive example of the popular Tall Date type. CC#5 in the Grellman census. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS64RB (old green PCGS label included). Now housed in a PCGS MS64 RB holder. (PCGS # 403887).
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
