Lot 335

1848 N-30 R5 F15. Sharpness VF30 but there are a few rim bruises on each side, including one at star 6 and another at TA in STATES. In addition there are traces of fine verdigris or crud caked into many of the protected areas, especially on the reverse. Perhaps a bath is warranted since the crud appears to be soft. Glossy chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown highpoints. MDS, die state b, with a strong, clearly defined rim cud from star 7 to star 8. Tied for CC#5 of those known with the cud break in the Grellman census, and the strength of the cud on this piece is a big plus.
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex Ron Houseknecht collection.

Realized $661
