1898. PCGS graded Proof 67 Deep Cameo. Only 735 minted. A white gem cameo. Virtually ice-white mirror fields topped by frosted devices stream light out in ways that almost mesmerize the onlooker. From across the room the fields glisten as light strikes a low angles. For its own part, there are keen-edged devices throughout, including square-off lettering, full star radials, and everything else one would expect from a landmark Proof 67 Deep Cameo specimen.
Most collectors are lucky to obtain one superior Proof Barber coin in a lifetime. Ancient ones, those who have been at it for several decades and have a strong will to search for the best, may have discovered that the availability of top-end Gems has almost entirely petered out. There seems no doubt that today’s bidders, in light of these flashy Registry Set specimens, will need to have "the stuff" to bid what it takes to acquire a few representative samples.
