Fatty Arbuckle - Photos & Negatives Never Seen By Him. Two 8 x 10 in. negatives of Arbuckle accompanied by a print of one and positive copies of both (a positive copy is basically a xerox copy made with the sole purpose of showing what the negative images look like; photographic prints can be made from the negatives). The print, which is matted and framed to 14 x 17 in., shows Arbuckle with his hands in his pockets and wearing his droopy pants, boots, and too-small hat, a look that Charlie Chaplin would borrow for his character, The Tramp; The other image is of Arbuckle in a suit, his thumb stuck in his mouth and holding a cigar. Both negatives are signed in the plate by photographer Herbert Mitchell. These are two of the negatives from a photo shoot Arbuckle had with celebrity photograph Mitchell in 1933, in an attempt to jump-start Arbuckle's career, but he dropped dead of a heart attack before he could pick them up. These photos were never seen by Fatty Arbuckle and were never released to the public. They have remained in Mitchell's files for almost 80 years!
Estimated Value $200 - 300.
Ex: Private collection of Herbert Mitchell.
