Ethel Merman. 5 x 7 in. glass negative of a very young Ethel Merman (1908-1984), one of Broadway's biggest stars, accompanied by a positive copy (a positive copy is basically a xerox copy made with the sole purpose of showing what the negative images look like; photographic prints can be made from the negatives). Born Ethel Agnes Zimmermann, she was known for her powerful voice, manifested in her many roles in musical theater. A few of the songs she belted out were "I Got Rhythm," "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "It's De-Lovely," "Anything Goes," and "There's No Business Like Show Business," which became her theme song. No photographic print of this negative is known to be in existence.
Estimated Value $200 - 300.
Ex: Private collection of Herbert Mitchell.
